Character’s “Real Name”: Henri Kristof
Have you played the game/watched the movie or anime/read the book or comic, etc. that your character hails from?: I have played all of the Mother series, played Mother 2 (officially translated and released in the US as the game “Earthbound”) in both Japanese and English, and played Mother 3 in Japanese.). Starmen.net, the biggest online Earthbound/Mother community made a full translation patch available after I started playing Claus, which I also played through—I’ll try to use their romanizations and translations for names since I believe those’ll become the standard for English-speaking fans where names haven’t got an official English reading already. I also bought and played Super Smash Brothers Brawl only for the Mother characters in it. XD;
Please give us a detailed personal history of your character:
Super Super Brief Overview of The History of the Whole Universe with Major Spoilers, Sorry: In the year 199X, it was prophesied that three boys and a girl would defeat an invading alien force, Giygas. Beside Giygas fought a human boy, Porky (mistranslated in “Earthbound” as Pokey, a mistranslation officially fixed in the English release of Brawl and fixed in the fan translation of Mother 3.) Porky was the annoying but oddly persistent neighbor of the chosen four’s leader, Ness. After Giygas was defeated, Porky escaped, using stolen technology to travel time and gradually build his own army. Misuse of time travel trapped Porky in an adolescent state, though his body seemed to slowly decay over the thousands or tens of thousands of years of his life (presumably hard to keep track of because of skipping back and forth; Porky states he isn’t sure.) Finally Porky himself was somehow sealed out of the time tunnels, although he can still open them and send people through/have things brought to him through them (how this happened isn’t explained in the game, though it’s clear he was sealed out against his will.) Unfortunately, he was sealed in a time after the world had gone and destroyed itself through human folly despite surviving alien invasion.
There is only one island left in the world that is inhabitable, a place called Nowhere Island. The few surviving humans of the former world fled to this place in a “white ship,” a few years before Lucas and Claus were born. By mutual agreement, the people decided to have their memories of their past lives erased, and to build a village (called Tazmily) where they would live as simply as possible, avoiding the lifestyles that they believed responsible for the outside world’s destruction. The island was said to be protected because it rested on top of a dragon, which had been sealed away under the island because it could not live with humanity in peace. The beings sealing it away are seven individuals who are not human, male, or female and are called Magypsies. These Magypsies are linked to seven needles which are said to pierce the body of the dragon, and certain types of people have the power to pull those needles (incidentally making the Magypsy connected to it disappear.) If the person who pulls the needles has a good soul, the dragon will become a dragon of light bringing happiness, and if the person has a dark soul the dragon will be a dragon of darkness and destroy everything. Claus and Lucas are the two individuals who can pull the needles and free the dragon.
Childhood: Claus and Lucas were both born and raised in idyllic Tazmily Village. They had no experience of complicated machinery and no knowledge of ‘money.’ Their parents, Hinawa and Flint, both treasured them very much and did their best to treat the boys well. Hinawa particularly was happy that they were born as twins, because it meant neither would be alone; they could support each other through difficult times and always have the other to lend him strength. Claus was outgoing and so energetic that it made Hinawa worry, whereas Lucas was shy and a bit of a crybaby. Claus also cheered on Lucas, however, trying to encourage him in Claus’s rambunctious style of play (such as pretend-fighting with friendly giant lizards called drago.) Flint raised sheep, and Hinawa’s father raised pigs and chickens, so the boys grew up with a farming lifestyle but lots of playtime on the side. One day, Hinawa goes to visit her father, who lives in the mountains north of the main village, and brings Claus and Lucas with her to see their grandfather. They play constantly while they’re there (although Lucas tends to wake up later than Claus) and have lots of fun getting to know the drago, who have “kind eyes” even if they are giant dinosaur-looking things.
However, the night that Hinawa is going to return with the children, the forest at the base of the mountain catches fire. This crisis is ended by a heavy rain, but Hinawa and the boys are late returning, and the entire village goes out to search for them, including Flint. In the forest, odd strangers wearing costumes with helmets that look piglike have been seen setting the fires, releasing strange animals and one of them drops a pamphlet with the orders to make the animals of the forest “cooler, stronger, more evil, rampaging.” Despite the increased violence of the natural animals and the odd changes to the native ones (changed into chimeras with natural or mechanical parts,) and the sighting of part of Hinawa’s clothing torn on a tree branch near a spot covered in drago claw marks, the boys are found safely. They were drifting downriver and are quickly wrapped up and placed near a fire by some of the concerned villagers. When Flint reaches them, both boys turn to clutch at him. After, they are unable to tell him what happened... Claus can only respond with silence or muttered cursing, and Lucas just mutters “… Mom… Mom is…” Another villager finds Hinawa’s body, impaled by a drago’s tooth, and at the news Flint goes berserk, attacking the other villagers in front of Claus and Lucas’s eyes until a villager knocks him unconscious.
Flint becomes the first person in Tazmily Village to be locked in the village jail, to stay until he regains his senses. Claus and Lucas are brought to their home by the villagers. Claus resolves to avenge their mother’s death, taking a homemade knife of Flint’s, but refuses to bring Lucas along and makes Lucas promise not to tell where he’s gone. Waking earlier than anyone else in the village, Claus first visits his mother’s new grave, then visits his father in jail, bringing him an apple with a file hidden in the core and telling Flint he intends to become stronger, strong enough to beat a drago. Flint uses the file to escape from the jail and makes it to his wife’s funeral (geez, those Tazmily people are cold,) but only Lucas is there, crying at his mother’s grave. When pushed, Lucas fails to hide Claus’s secret, and Flint runs after Claus to try and stop him alongside the twins’ grandfather, Alec. Alec helps Flint find his way to a Magypsy’s home, where they are all gathered together (with one missing member) to have a tea party. They tell Flint that they saw Claus, who looked determined enough to throw his life away, so to help him they unlocked in him some psychic powers (PSI.) Chasing after Claus’s path again into the dragos’ lair, they find a drago that has been turned half-robot and violent, but although they defeat it, they find nothing of Claus other than his shoes. Claus is shown to the player lying on a cliff out of sight of Flint and Alec, face down and either unconscious or dead. Flint searches for some other sign of Claus after visiting Hinawa’s grave each day for the next three years, but finds nothing.
After Childhood: Claus’s body is found by the Pig Mask army. One of the Magypsies has joined Porky’s side, disguising him/herself as a man named Fassad, and it may be that he sensed the potential in Claus and that is why Claus was picked up by the Pig Masks. It seems likely that Claus died from his injuries either fighting the mecha-drago or being knocked off the cliff, since Porky later refers to Claus as “my dead son,” but either way he was severely injured and, like the animals around Tazmily, rebuilt by the Pig Masks. Claus is recreated as the Commander, with no other name. The degree of the changes made to his body are never specifically stated, but he can send out electric blasts that are not psychically generated (distinguished from the psychic ability PK Thunder), he is shown with a cannon attached to his right (non-main) arm and a sword which channels his electric blasts in his left hand, he has batwing attachments with jets, and usually wears a helmet that earns him the nickname ‘the masked man’ although it only covers one eye and shadows another, really. I would guess that his upper body has been almost entirely rebuilt, particularly his limbs and possibly his back, although I do not believe the cannon he wears in battle is an actual arm replacement because he is shown without it in his last moments and because Lucas is able to walk around in Claus’s clothes and pass himself off as the Commander despite the fact that he has two hands. Instead, it’s an accessory he wears into battle, like the mask, which also seems to be optional (that is, when Lucas goes to an extremely secure Pig Mask facility he is ‘recognized’ as Claus, something which probably wouldn’t happen if no one ever saw Claus without the helmet.)
The amount of time Claus spent in construction isn’t clear, but by the time three years have passed and Lucas has begun his journey, the Commander is a well-known part of the Pig Mask army. He is respected and even revered to a degree by his subordinates, addressed with the high honorific –dono. Most of what we know about the Commander’s interactions with his troops comes from the views we see of him before and after battle, and the time Lucas spends in disguise as him. Claus never speaks to his opponents, but he is not mute, just stoic. One Pig Mask comments that he seems “upbeat” compared to usual when talking to Lucas. When the Commander arrives for a battle, the Pig Masks literally roll out a red carpet and line up alongside it, then the Commander lands via batwings, and in his first ‘fight’ against Lucas wipes out the entire party with one blow, followed by cheers and whistles from his adoring followers. Later, when the Commander’s group is surprised by Lucas’s party and Lucas manages to defeat him, the followers flee in terror from the scene. Despite being robotic, Claus isn’t perfect and isn’t expected to be so, despite his battle skill, and when Lucas in disguise is searching for something at a dump site several Pig Masks stop to help him and promise not to tell anybody the Commander did something embarrassing like throwing away something by mistake.
After drawing the first needle, the Commander loses his transceiver phone, another little mistake and a sign of how the Pig Masks seem to realize he is in fact fairly young and they are more than willing to accept little gaffes (such as his showing up at an important facility out of uniform, which is how Lucas gets Claus’s Commander outfit) in exchange for his power. Porky uses something called “Nice-Person Springs” to brainwash people into following him and practically worshipping him, and this may account for some of the fond loyalty towards Claus, but Claus himself probably hasn’t received this treatment; it causes a sort of euphoric and loving reaction towards Porky, whereas Claus as the Commander is shown as calm and businesslike. His loyalty instead seems to be programmed in.
As the story progresses, Claus nearly kills his brother several times, first by trying (and succeeding) in having him shaken off the Pig Mask helicopter the twin was clinging to with his friends, later attacking Lucas ruthlessly first with his initial lightning attack and, once Lucas has a counter for that, attacking him more straightforwardly with physical and psychic attacks along with other variations of the lightning attack. After it becomes clear that Porky is having Claus pull the needles, Lucas rushes to also begin pulling them. Lucas does not know of Claus’s identity at this point due to the ‘mask’ helmet, although there’s plenty of hints (like the fact that Lucas is easily confused for the Commander...) Tazmily Village has been completely overcome by Porky’s influence, due to the help of Fassad and something called ‘happiness boxes’ which encourage the people to wish to abandon their old ways of life and modernize, not knowing their own past. Claus has little to do with this, however, kept far from Tazmily aside from visiting the ruined castle there to pull the needle, to avoid anyone recognizing Claus as someone other than the Commander. Porky insists that Claus has no name now, and no identity other than the Commander, a puppet who follows his will. Porky wishes to see the world finally destroyed, aside from himself (he claims he can’t die) and is using Claus to fulfill that wish. The Magypsies say that they cannot sense a soul in the person who pulled the needles Claus pulls; they say that it seems to reflect the dark side of the dragon, but also that it’s unclear really whether it’s a good or evil soul (Ionia, one Magypsie, questions whether a soulless human might exist.)
End: Lucas and Claus have each pulled three of seven needles, and the final needle is hidden under the city Porky constructed. Even after Porky’s defeat, Claus is going ahead with his orders to pull the last needle when he is interrupted by Lucas’s group, along with Flint who has discovered what happened to his “adorable son.” (By contrast, Porky calls Claus his own “dead son” and his “adorable monster.”) Claus is stronger than ever, defeating all of Lucas’s party aside from Lucas, while Lucas can barely stay alive. Flint throws himself into the path of some of Claus’s most powerful attacks, pleading with Claus that he searched every day to find Claus again, but Claus does not pause his attack to acknowledge him or even avoid hitting Flint. Finally, the voice of their dead mother Hinawa begins to break through the battle. Her spirit calls out to her sons to stop fighting. Claus’s attacks weaken as he looks at Lucas and then looks around wildly, as though searching for something. Having broken through, Hinawa gives them both the memory of their twin cribs, with her own memory of the hope that they would be able to support each other. She then tells Claus that she knows he’s tired, and he should come with her. Claus drops his helmet, sword and cannon, revealing his face again, and he raises his hand to send out a last lightning attack. It is aimed at the item which had protected Lucas from the attack before, and he takes the reflection of his attack head-on, before collapsing into Lucas’s arms. Claus apologizes for what he’s done, and apologizes to Flint for being a disobedient son, before telling Lucas he hopes they can meet again someday and dying in his brother’s arms.
Aside from general depression about leading an evil army and trying to kill his family, and aside from Hinawa’s encouragement, Claus’s suicide possibly was because he had already technically died and was only alive due to Porky’s scientists’ alterations of him, and possibly because his body might overcome the awareness that Hinawa’s spirit managed to waken in him, causing him to return to his ‘programming’ and endanger Lucas or Flint again.
Please give us a detailed description of your character's personality:
Before Claus was taken in by Porky, he was outgoing and energetic, but a bit reckless. Claus seems more like the heroes of the previous two Mother games (unlike his shy brother Lucas) and is clearly the sort of kid who’ll decide to take charge of things or decide that something is his duty (such as avenging his mother’s death) despite his age. As a kid, it’s no question why Hinawa describes him as “too energetic,” when we see Claus dominate a dinner conversation pretty much entirely by himself. Claus teases his shy little brother some, but genuinely does want to protect him and encourage him like a proper older brother should. He wakes Lucas up to come out to play with the then-friendly drago, mentioning their new baby’s cuteness as a lure, and demonstrates the way they were playing (Claus tackles the giant lizard and after a pause, it pretends to fall over) before giving Lucas his turn and telling Lucas to try and smack into the drago as hard as he can, since the drago finds that fun too. He does seem to be trying to draw Lucas out in his own way, and when the two are shown together other times in flashback, while Claus may run ahead a bit, he turns and waits for Lucas after. After their mother’s death, while Lucas seems to want to explain what happened but is unable to bring himself to, Claus seems to be drawn in on himself. His cursing may be at his own weakness, and his inability to protect either Lucas or his mother. When Flint is in prison, Claus takes the initiative both to help Flint break out and to avenge Hinawa. He doesn’t want Lucas to come along, even though Lucas says he wanted to, because Claus sees it as his role as big brother to take care of this and to protect Lucas. His wish to become stronger, ironically, is granted not only by the Magypsies unlocking his inherent psychic abilities but by the Pig Masks. Claus’s last words to his father in prison are that he’ll become strong enough to beat a drago, just before he runs out; the Commander is certainly that strong.
As the Commander, Claus is cold and ruthless, emotionless enough that the psychically powerful Magypsies can’t even sense his nature. He does not recognize Lucas at all as his brother, and does not recognize the name ‘Claus’ either, as it has been replaced by the title Commander. (As Porky puts it, ‘Claus’ is more like the kind of name you’d give a human.) At first the Commander seems to be somewhat devoid of personality because of this, but his interactions with his underlings and the interactions others make with Lucas under the impression that he’s the Commander gives a more complicated picture. Aside from effusive politeness, the lower-ranked Pig Masks seem at ease to talk to the Commander (such as one awkwardly telling Lucas-as-Commander that the dog following him is “cute,” not the sort of thing you usually say about an army Commander or his party, or other Pig Masks who openly explain difficulties they’re having with a current project rather than trying to cover them up.) My favorite sign of how the Pig Mask army adores the Commander is when you’re walking along the side of a road in the Commander’s clothes, and a lower-ranked soldier actually stops his vehicle, gets out, and gives it to you. In yet another short scene, one of the Pig Masks gives the Commander (Lucas in disguise) a present ‘from the heart,’ a useful healing item, while adding shyly that he doesn’t mean anything ‘weird’ by it. The Commander seems to be half their leader, half their adorably small yet incredibly powerful mascot, in a way. He does go out into the field and act on his own or as the leader or groups, not to mention the fact that the Pig Masks within the army’s facilities defer to him, so he’s used to a degree of authority within his role. When a situation requires an unexpected decision, such as when Lucas and his friends are hanging onto the end of the helicopter’s ladder instead of Fassad, Claus is the one who surveys the situation and then makes the decision to go back inside and order them to shake the helicopter to get Lucas and the others off.
Claus probably went without the helmet/mask only within the most important facilities in the Pig Mask army. In areas of lower importance, such as the village, the mines or even the main chimera lab Lucas isn’t recognized as Claus. The ‘casual’ dress at the Claymen construction facility may be why Lucas, in his civilian clothes, was confused for Claus in the first place... but also indicates that the Commander is known to relax sometimes, at least to the degree of taking off his battle equipment. His small mistakes, like losing his phone after pulling the first needle, also indicate that his robotic nature isn’t enough to make him some sort of perfect machine, and may even be part of what endears him to his underlings. The Commander is still ruthless enough to crush any enemy in his path until he meets Lucas equipped with an anti-lightning defense, and even then he fights viciously until he’s fully defeated. While the Commander has a degree of ‘showiness’ in his fighting due to his strength, such as the carpet and dramatic entrance, once he’s finally defeated in battle he takes it seriously and without complaint, sparking a bit but managing to stand and then fly off in retreat instead of protesting or denying that he’s overpowered.
The Commander is aware of the existence of a former life as a human being (he still has human parts) but doesn’t remember it or think of himself as being that human anymore, accepting his role as “King P”’s loyal attack monster. I don’t think he is completely emotionless, but rather that any emotional reaction is heavily buried and probably an immediate reaction to circumstances... that is, while he is capable to some degree of frustration, annoyance, pride in his work or even pleasure, these are momentary things which even at their most powerful aren’t really able to make him pause. Some of the stubborn, strong-willed child Claus once was remains in the Commander’s aggressive style in battle, and while Lucas’s cheerfulness is commented on as a change of pace in the Commander’s voice, it seems to be only a mild anomaly to the Pig Mask he speaks to, an unusual change in mood rather than an obvious difference between an absolutely dead robotic tone and a human one. Intense emotions or lingering emotions are another question. While his King’s enemies must be crushed, this is a matter of order, not a grudge or vendetta. Even his loyalty to King Porky is coldly unquestioning, unlike Porky’s ecstatic brainwashed followers or Porky’s own peculiarly half-fond ways of referring to his “monster.” The fact that his soul can’t be sensed shows how deeply suppressed the original Claus is. Claus does evil things, but is himself motivated by neither good nor evil, just by the orders he is given.
Claus’s suicide upon reawakening seems to indicate that Claus was not entirely dead and not simply a robot or a puppet on strings during his time as the Commander. He clearly remembers what he’s done, and I don’t think he’d have had such a strong reaction once freed if there hadn’t been enough left of Claus to somewhere realize what he was doing was wrong. Hinawa’s own words that Claus must be tired and that he should rest also indicate this to me. Finally, the theme to Mother 3, “Theme Of Love/We Miss You” seems to describe Claus’s situation in some degree, as the “little one who walks his path alone,” unlike Lucas who has his father and friends. That song calls upon memories of a child that the singer can still see in her mind, someone who will turn around if she calls out (as Claus finally turns when Hinawa’s calls manage to reach him,) someone she wants to show warm memories and dreams (such as her memories of Claus and Lucas as children,) and someone whose path needs light. The overall tone of the song bolsters my feeling that we are to understand that some part of Claus has suffered through all of this, thus his being “tired” and joining his mother. (In fairness, parts of the song seem to fit Lucas’s situation as well, but I think most of the song suits Claus the best.)
All of that said, it takes multiple attempts to murder Lucas, Flint throwing himself in Claus’s path until he’s too wounded to keep it up, Lucas and Flint both being aware of Claus’s identity and trying to wake him up, and quite a bit of Hinawa’s spirit calling out before Claus actually wakes up. Claus as the Commander is not entirely a perfect robot killer boy, but he is also not going to just pop out of his programming the first time he meets a Lucas or has someone tell him his name. His loyalty to King Porky will take importance over all else, unless something massive (like his entire family, including the psychic ones and the dead ones, trying to wake him up) happens. In daily interactions, he will be cold and methodical, though not perfect, and won’t hesitate at using violence to get his way. The fact that he has a small frame and has lost a lot of his ability to mete out violence may make this difficult on him... he will also have to adjust to the fact that he is not the Commander of anything in particular at the moment, and individuals are not going to go out of their way to do as he says. The Commander, judging from interactions with his underlings, isn’t rude or even mean-spirited (in part because he’s so emotionally stunted) but will be very straightforward and not inclined towards complex thought before taking action. His main priority, since his actions are to be an extension of Porky’s will (in Porky’s own words) would be to figure out what his King would want him to do and to consider that the highest priority. He does seem to have enough autonomy that he goes out on his own, gives orders and has authority within the army, but it will still take him time to adjust to a world where he completely lacks access to the King’s orders.
Please give us a detailed physical description of your character:
Claus has reddish-blond hair, the main difference in his looks from Lucas (who has yellow blond hair.) His hair seems to stick up slightly in the center. He is short, although not unusually short for his age. Still, he carries himself with the mannerisms of a somewhat stiff adult, and is called a “man” rather than a boy by the protagonists. He’s a sprite for GBA, so details are, uh... in Brawl, if you zoom in on the horrifying soulless black dots for eyes the Mother characters get, Lucas seems to have blue ‘highlights,’ plus fans seem to favor the color in fanarts, so I’ll say his eyes are blue. (I have seen some fan drawings of Claus with one red ‘robot’ eye as the one fully covered by the mask, but if he has an eye that sticks out it isn’t portrayed as such in the sprite or described at any point in the game, plus that’s a bigger distinction than a shade lighter hair coloring for Lucas’s disguise, so I’m saying Claus’s eyes both look about the same although one may be robotic.) As the Commander, he dresses neatly, his uniform including boots, a thick jacket, and white gloves.
What point in time are you taking your character from when he/she appears at Landel's?:
I am taking Claus from immediately before the sixth needle is drawn. Lucas is still not aware of Claus’s identity (although some major hint bombs have dropped for the player, including a hallucination sequence that includes Lucas imagining a Claus who describes himself as “The Claus that Lucas can't see.”) Porky (who is called “King P” up to this point by his followers, leaving his identity a surprise for Mother 2 players) has finished his peculiar masterpiece New Pork City and is ready to invite Lucas and friends for the final showdown after the sixth needle is drawn by either Lucas or Claus. Claus has nearly killed Lucas several times, but has not yet been defeated by Lucas, and recognizes Lucas as an enemy.
What kinds of magical/special/crazy powers does your character have, if any?:
Claus has PSI abilities. (Attack PSI tend to start with PK for ‘psychokinetic,’ defense or healing abilities are also PSI but rarely get a prefix.) The most important PSI ability he has is PK LOVE, a specialty attack limited to Claus and Lucas and the indication that he is one of the few individuals who can unlock the dragon. This attack, depending on the strength cast, can be extremely powerful. He also has the ability to raise a psychokinetic shield (called Counter) which blocks half a physical attack’s damage and returns that damage on the attacker for a certain number of rounds. Since his abilities seem to mirror Lucas’s, he should probably have healing abilities such as Lifeup, but he never seems to use them in the game.
As the Commander, he has an arm cannon from which he can send a blast of energy, and he has a lightning sword which he can swing for a physical attack or from which he can send a ranged lightning attack. Until Lucas gets an item which blocks this lightning sword blast, the entire party is wiped out with one blow from it. The blast seems to be channeled through his hand and then the sword, as he raises his hand and not the sword to send a lightning blast and commit suicide at the end of the game.
The Commander also has equipment like wings that seem to come out of his back, and a helmet which has an extension over one eye (possibly to help with aiming.) His upper body is largely robotic and he seems to be very strong when dealing physical blows (rather than psychic or energy-based technological attacks.)
This is not exactly a power, but since Lucas is a psychic who can speak to animals (among other things) and still can’t reach his own twin’s mind, and since the Magypsies cannot even tell if the nature of Claus’s soul is dark or light, I’d say he’s a psychic blank to others.
If present, how do you plan to tweak those powers to make him/her appropriately hindered in the setting of Landel's?:
His electrical parts, which generate a powerful lightning attack especially when channeled through his sword, will still be present but will not be capable of generating more than a minor shock or sparking, and that with some effort. Being in the shower will result in an irritating static-y sensation, adding to his impression that he is partially ‘broken’ and needs repair. The main benefits I can imagine would be irritating other people (especially people wearing sweaters,) a very mild attack that might startle something not expecting it, or as a weak power source if electricity is needed.
His psychic abilities will also still be present, but weaker. Since he never uses Lifeup or other healing abilities, even though he theoretically could learn them as Lucas’s mirror, he won’t have them. He also won’t have his psychokinetic Counter shield ability. He will still have the weakest form of the attack PK LOVE, which will function as a blue flash of light along with a psychokinetic impact which will hit anyone within a close radius (say, 20 feet) of him. The closer the target, the harder the impact; so, someone 20 feet away would feel a bit of a shove and might stumble back, an adult male standing right in front of Claus would probably be knocked down. He can use this ability 3 times a night before running out of points—uh, that is, being over-tired.
Since the Commander is partially robotic, he will have a combination of an advantage and a disadvantage. Although superficial damage and damage to his organic parts will heal at a usual Landel’s rate, his robotic parts will have to be kept bandaged/hidden if exposed by damage and he may require tools to repair parts of himself or have others help him repair himself at least enough for his upper body to function if he takes bad enough damage to the chest or arms. Still, his upper body is somewhat tougher than a strictly organic character beyond the epidermis, and he is stronger than an average 13 year old, about as strong as a healthy but not supernaturally strong adult male.
He will retain his immunity to telepathic contact of any kind.
Does your character have any other non-magical skills or abilities that we should know about?:
His main weapon is a sword, so even if he can’t send lightning blasts from it, that would be his weapon of choice here too. Claus has experience in leadership as the Commander, although winning all the time and being adorable probably helped that a lot. Claus at least knows in passing something about creating both organic and mechanical chimeras even though it isn’t his main occupation, both judging from suggestions and requests the Pig Mask underlings make to him and the fact that he essentially is a mechanical chimera. He probably knows a little about electronics, more about how to make them come apart than how to put them together, again due to his own body.
How about improbable appendages?:
Claus’s arms are partially robotic, and he can be hooked up with a cannon! ... he doesn’t have it, but if he did! The wings may or may not be physically part of Claus’s robotic body, but I’m going to say they’re like the cannon and are optional attachments he just won’t have at Landel’s. (I make him sound like a vacuum cleaner...)
